ANZIO 2002 |
The WBC 2002 Anzio Scenario is a shorter game which should be familiar to all those conversant with the Anzio Basic Game.
1. RULES: The Official Rules for the 2000 WBC Anzio Championship Tournament apply, except as noted here.
2. GAME LENGTH: Six turns, starting with the Allied November III 1943 turn.
3. PORTS: The Allies have four open ports: Taranto, Messina, Salerno Beachhead, and Termoli City. All ports have 100% BU saved. The Allies also have two port counters available.
4. ORDERS OF BATTLE: |
A. Each side assembles all units available through November II 1943, except for replacements. |
B. Each side must step down (reduce strength of) their units a total of ten steps, in any combination, except that no units of any kind may be destroyed. Also, the Germans must reduce such that only one unit may have an attack factor greater than 5. |
C. Replacements: The Germans start with one infantry and one armored ersatz unit. The Allies start with two replacement units of either nationality. |
5. GERMAN SET-UP: |
A. Germans set up first. |
B. The two reinforcements that enter November II may be placed at W32 and/or B37. No other location is permitted. |
C. All but four of the German units must set up anywhere in the front
line: |
D. Up to four units of any type may be placed anywhere north of the front line (hint: invasion defense). Note that the reinforcements placed at W32 or B37 do not count in this total. |
E. Replacements may not be used to build up depleted units during the initial placement. |
6. ALLIED SET-UP: |
A. Allies set up second, then move first. The Allies start with the reroll chit. |
B. All units may be placed in any playable hex south of the front line (as defined above). Alternatively, they may be placed in Taranto, Messina or Sicila. They may not be placed in German ZOC. |
C. Replacements may not be used to build up depleted units during the initial placement. This initial placement represents the position at the end of the German Novmber II 1943 turn. |
7. STARTING THE GAME: The Allied player conducts his November III 1943 normally. The Allied units may move overland, move by sea, invade, and/or combine with replacements during the movement phase.
8. CHOOSING SIDES: For the first round, players may mutually agree upon sides after game assignments have been determined. If both opponents wish to play the same side, the determinations will be made randomly by the GM.
COMMENT: This situation should be familiar to anyone who has played the Basic Game. The Allies must decide whether to invade immediately, before the Germans reinforce the Roma zone with the disadvantage that the German invasion reaction will then have ample time to affect the game outcome. Alternatively, the Allies could try to take Cassino or Pescara, either one of which would be enough to win. They could also invade later, or invade AND try to win by an overland advance. Cassino and Pescara are close, but time is short.
